Battery Energy Storage System
Battery Energy Storage System Overview
Aula Energy is proposing a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the existing Wellington North Solar Farm to strengthen the role the site already plays in the energy system. We are developing on previously disturbed land within the centre of the site and utilising existing transmission infrastructure.
The size of the BESS is anticipated to be up to 350 MW installed / 330 MW export capacity and up to eight hour duration subject to ongoing feasibility studies.
By building on established infrastructure, the project is designed to strengthen the energy system while making better use of existing infrastructure which minimises additional land disturbance, with no additional land clearing required.
Energy hubs that combine technologies such as solar and battery storage support grid reliability and help to respond to peak energy demand.
Please note: Image concept subject to further technical, environmental studies, community involvement and modification to the planning and approvals.

Wellington Community
We are committed to responsible development that understands and manages local impacts with a strong focus on transparency and care for the community.
The Social Impact Assessment will identify and assess potential social impacts on the Wellington and Dubbo communities, outlining how these impacts (both positive and negative) may be mitigated or enhanced, and how they may be monitored.
The community will have opportunities to review the project and provide feedback on potential social and environmental impacts and local benefits through our engagement program and the state government planning process. This includes
community information sessions as well as one-on-one discussions with community members.
Aula Energy recognises the project sits within the Wellington community and we are focused on ensuring the benefits are felt locally through jobs, procurement, and long-term community investment shaped with the community. A contemporary benefit sharing is proposed for the BESS to ensure we support local benefits while delivering projects that strengthen the broader electricity grid.
As the project progresses, the community will continue to play a role in shaping these benefits, helping identify priorities for jobs, business opportunities and community investment.
This input will guide the development of a Community Benefit Agreement, helping to ensure the project delivers outcomes that are visible, relevant and valued by the community it is part of.
We will continue to work closely with local people, councils, Traditional Owners, and regional businesses across Wellington and Dubbo to understand skills, capacity and how procurement can best support local participation.
